Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

Its always interesting to see children grow up in movies sequels and on television, but in the latest installment of Harry Potter, the kids aren't kids anymore. These young adults play their rolls well, and the story finally gives us some love interests for our main three characters.

Shows 4 and 5 in my opinion didn't live up to the first 3 movies. While 4 and 5 are far from bad, they just failed to deliver a good ending. The ending is what makes a movie for me. Episode 6 however brings a very nice ending with many directions that the plot could go in. Many of you Harry Potter fans who have read the books, already know where it goes.

For those of you who don't know... and never heard the hype several years back about a main character dying, be prepared. I won't spoil it by mentioning who.

All and all, its another great story in the Harry Potter line, and I'll be adding this one to my Blu-Ray collection. I've already planed to replace episodes 1-4 of my DVDs with Blu-Rays, and I never picked up episode 5 on DVD, and I've been waiting to get a Blu-Ray player before adding that movie to my collection. There is a box set of the first five movies available, and I think this is the direction I'll take.

Knowing (Blu-Ray)

Casing: The embossed cardboard cover is nice, but nothing fancy.

Inside: Inside the case you will only find the disc, and nothing else.

Sound: For me on my system, the surround sound music seemed to drowned out the dialog a lot. Many of the quitter moments of the movie I had to strain to hear, while action scenes rumbled my walls.

Picture: The picture looks awesome on my screen.

Features: There isn't much here. Although the "Making Of" and the "Visions of the Apocalypse" are nice.

Moon

This movie was originally released in select theaters back in June. I'm so glad that it finally cycled around to a screen in my town.

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The movie moves a little slow, but at a steady pace. The reality of this movie still leaves me wondering how corporations think they can get away with this stuff? How can humans treat each other like cattle? I'm trying not to say to much, as to not give away anything in the movie.

The acting is great, and after all it has to be, since our lead character is usually the only person on the screen for 97% of the movie.

This movie isn't your typical blockbuster, or roller coaster ride. This movie is gonna make you think, its gonna make you ask questions. If you can see only one movie this year, so far I pick this as the one you should see.

You know I will be adding this to my newly growing Blue-Ray collection when it comes out.

Angels & Demons

Another controversial film. While we can sit and argue this movie for days, even years... you could put and end to all the arguing by simply allowing the public into the Vatican's archives.

Anytime a group of people want to hide something from others, or demonize another group of people, you have to step back and ask why. Sadly when it comes to the Vatican most people just go along with it.

While most people will do good in the name of their religion, religions of all types generally will do more harm to the masses than good. Don't believe me? Look around at the events going on, and that have been going on since the first religions spawned.

I never read the book by Dan, so I went into this movie with no expectations. I found it very entertaining. It made me ask some questions though that I hadn't thought of, and I applaud this movie for that. Any movie that makes you stop and think, well now, that's entertainment.

I own The Da Vinci Code on DVD and will probably be replacing it when I can with a Blu-Ray copy, and yes I will be purchasing Angels & Demons on Blu-Ray as well.

Star Trek

Before even going to see this I could already smell the controversy. My own mother who is a huge Trek Fan said, "I'm not sure if I can adjust to someone else playing the parts of Kirk and Spock". My only question from the trailer and information floating around on the internet was, "Is this going to be a rip-off of the independently produced movie: Star Trek - Of Gods and Men?"

While the new Star Trek movie is much faster paced, and tells the story in a better way, I was sad to find out it was indeed a rip-off of the movie Star Trek - Of Gods and Men. While not a complete copy, this new movie is less in depth in actual things going on in our world, and tries to stay more with the Star Trek universe. Even this is very hard though as this movie literally destroys all that we know and recreates it. However, this ending leaves it wide open for a sequel or more importantly a new television series.

Below you'll find the usual trailer for the movie, but I've also included a trailer to the independently produced Star Trek - Of Gods and Men.

Of Gods and Men is a little more traditional in its style, bringing original cast members from the first four series. While not as fast paced or heavily CG'd as the new Star Trek movie, this one touches on things going on in our current world. Its story has a more traditional Trek ending which will probably please more people. If you haven't seen this, take the time to watch it and notice just how much of the new movie was riped-off from this one.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I really debated on going to watch this movie. The original movie to me is okay, the second one is slightly better, and the third was a complete disappointment. It came down to about 2 nights before the opening and I decided I'd give it a try. I was not let down. I had a great time, if anything I'd say this is the best X-Men movie so far.

The ending seemed to be going fine, leading pretty much right up to the opening of the first movie, until they throw in a little cliff hanger suggesting that there could be a possible 2nd Wolverine movie, or a fourth X-Men movie.

I don't own any of the X-Men movies... I just didn't like them that much. However, again I'm debating, and only time will tell if I purchase this one.

Fast & Furious

Being a fan of "The Fast and The Furious" and a minor fan of the 2nd and 3rd movies, I couldn't wait to see this. This movie is what should have been the 2nd movie in the series. I guess all good things do come in time. I'll definately be purchasing this one when it comes out on Blu-Ray.

Knowing

I like disaster flicks, and throw in the aspect that someone has knowledge of events before they happen... well... yes... it does make for a great movie! Happened to catch a caller on radio commenting about this movie, and his thoughts where that it was a bunch of government propaganda. Not true though. While the average viewer may only get 2 or 3 small Bible connections, this movie has tons of references to the Bible. Sad thing is, this caller was on a Christian show... so it was obvious that he doesn't read/know his Bible.

I feel though that this movie is above a lot of people. As I sat in my seat the few people I could hear all had completely different outcomes at the end of the movie. Most of them where not favorable of the ending. Honestly though, with this type of a movie its the perfect ending.

This movie I'm looking forward to buying on Blu-Ray.
